SIL provider registration is now mandatory: a safer era for NDIS supported accommodation

From 1 July 2026, Supported Independent Living providers — including group homes — and digital platform providers must be registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. Before this change, only around 8% of NDIS providers were registered and visible to the Commission; the Government’s stated goal is to bring up to 90% of providers into the regulated system over time.
Why it matters
SIL is one of the highest-value parts of the NDIS — around $16 billion a year — and supports some of the scheme’s most vulnerable participants in closed, high-intensity settings. Registration means independent quality audits, worker screening, incident reporting obligations and a regulator that can act when something isn’t right.
What to ask any SIL provider
- Are you registered? Ask for their registration number — any registered provider will share it happily.
- Who oversees quality? Ask about clinical oversight, staff training and how incidents are reported.
- How do you handle complaints? A good provider has a clear, accessible feedback pathway — and tells you about the NDIS Commission’s complaint line (1800 035 544) without being asked.
Vitality Community Care is a registered NDIS provider, and all our supported accommodation — across Melbourne, Sydney and Perth — operates under the Commission’s Practice Standards, with the audits and screening that registration requires.
