What is SIL?
Supported Independent Living is NDIS funding for the help you need to live as independently as possible in your own home — usually a shared home with other participants, though it can also support you living alone. It covers the people who support you; if you’re eligible for Specialist Disability Accommodation, that funds the home itself.
What’s included
- Help with personal care, morning and evening routines
- Meal planning, cooking and household tasks — done with you, not for you
- Skill-building: budgeting, cooking, using transport, managing your home
- Medication support and health appointments
- Overnight support — active overnight or sleepover — and 24/7 rosters where funded
- Support to get out into your community
Who it’s for
SIL suits participants with higher support needs — typically people who need help throughout the day, every day. It’s written into your plan after a home-and-living assessment with the NDIA.
How Vitality does SIL
We match housemates carefully (meet-and-greets and trial stays before anyone commits), roster for consistency so you see familiar faces, and involve your family and support coordinator as much — or as little — as you want. From 1 July 2026 all SIL providers must be registered with the NDIS Commission; Vitality is a registered provider.
You can browse our current available SIL and SDA homes across Melbourne, Sydney and Perth.
